Coverage grows in steps, and each step is checked before the next begins. A company appears once its figures have been checked against its own filings; the methodology says what that check covers.

1. Eighteen large US companies with long filing histories — published.
2. About fifty companies.
3. About one hundred companies.
4. The S&P 500.

Every company starts as cross-checked and moves to human-verified once its figures have been typed by hand from the filings and matched line by line.
